The 1870 Art Center is a cultural resource for the community. It provides working studios for professional artists and has an established art gallery. Exhibits in the Gallery include works of member artists as well as work by outstanding artists from throughout the country.
OPEN STUDIOS
We frequently open our studios to the public. Our annual Spring Open Studios are scheduled to coincide with the regional Silicon Valley Open Studios, generally in early May. Fall Open Studios occur in October or November.
During these weekends visitors are welcome to meet the artists, discuss the processes and purchase original works of art from their creators.

HISTORY
In 1977 the Belmont City Council, under the auspices of the Parks and Recreation Department, established the Twin Pines Art Center. The artists moved to 1870 Ralston (the former Barrett School) in 1985 and reopened as the 1870 Gallery & Studios. In 1997 the name was changed to 1870 Art Center to reflect its role in the community.
